The national average diesel price continued its steady descent, shedding 4.8 cents to reach $3.828 a gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released Jan. 8.

Highlights

  • Diesel’s average price has started the new year with consecutive declines totaling 8.6 cents. Overall, trucking’s main fuel has fallen in cost 10 of the past 11 weeks.
  • The average price for a gallon of diesel now costs 72.1 cents less than at this time in 2023.
  • The average diesel price dropped in all 10 regions of EIA’s weekly survey, ranging from a high of 9 cents in the Rocky Mountain area to a low of 1.2 cents in New England.
  • Gasoline dropped by 1.6 cents on the national average to reach $3.073 a gallon.
