The U.S. Department of Agriculture is racing to contain the deadly New World screwworm after a case was detected in Texas.

The agency is implementing quarantines, movement controls and surveillance in a 12-mile zone around the detection, and has also expedited the release of sterile flies to prevent the pest’s spread.

The retailer said it will stay cautious on spending trends after tax refund-driven demand fades, while continuing to use viral products to drive store traffic.

QXO saw terms improve on a $6 billion financing package to fund its purchase of rival TopBuild, which attracted more than three times the amount of demand from investors.

CEO John Furner said that low-income consumers are experiencing greater pressure on high gas prices. “That’s really the stress point, is the price of fuel,” he said.

Some Dollar General shoppers are cutting back on food and other household expenses due to rising gas prices, CEO Todd Vasos said on the company’s earnings call.

QXO agreed to buy insulation company TopBuild for about $17 billion, making QXO the second-largest publicly traded building products distributor in North America.

Costco Wholesale reported higher-than-expected profit in the latest quarter, showing the club chain continues to gain ground among cautious U.S. shoppers.

Comparable sales gained 3.5% in the first quarter, topping estimates. That was driven by a 4.5% gain in the average transaction.
