Class 8 Sales

U.S. Class 8 retail sales jumped 30% year over year in September, while year-to-date sales remain down 5%.

Lisle, Ill.-based International sold 19,900 vehicles in the most recent quarter, compared with 13,400 trucks and buses in the year-ago period.

North America posted the larger percentage increase of the two truck segments in Q3, while Mercedes-Benz Trucks also recorded higher sales.

Tesla launched high-volume production of its Class 8 battery-electric Semi tractor at its factory in Reno, Nev., with plans to build 1,000 trucks a week.

“Let’s see exactly how it will play out now, because it has been a very recent development,” Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt said during the Q2 earnings call.
