Andrew Puzder’s remarks come as the full European Parliament prepares for a vote March 26 on the EU-U.S. trade deal negotiated last year.

The uncertainty has weighed on soybean prices, with Chicago futures headed for a weekly drop of around 4.5%, the most in nearly a year.

“The probability of increasing pricing slightly or potentially increasing tariff surcharges over the year has increased,” said Eva Scherer, Daimler Truck CFO.

The Federal Open Market Committee voted 11-1 to hold the benchmark federal funds rate in a range of 3.5% to 3.75%. Governor Stephen Miran dissented.

“We’re resetting the meeting,” Trump said March 17 at the White House during a sit-down with the Irish prime minister. “[China was] fine with it.” 

The European Parliament’s trade committee will vote March 19 on the accord, which will then go to a full plenary vote later this month or in April.

China’s international trade representative said the Chinese side had expressed concern about trade investigations into manufacturing in foreign countries that the U.S. has launched.

The Trump administration said it’s making progress on building a web-based portal to handle refund requests for almost $170 billion in global tariffs that were overturned by the Supreme Court.

The administration has rushed to construct a new tariff regime after the Supreme Court ruled that the president violated the Constitution by imposing many of his previous duties using an emergency law. 

The gap in goods and services trade shrank more than 25% from the prior month to $54.5 billion, Commerce Department data showed March 12.
