Texas is investigating five trucking schools for “endangering” state residents by illegally training commercial vehicle drivers.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy highlighted the revoked non-domiciled CDLs among a list of one-year accomplishments to support the trucking industry.

New York is suing USDOT, saying it lacks the authority to withhold $73.5 million in funding over what DOT said were noncompliance issues with state-issued CDLs.

New York is holding its ground despite a $73.5 million funding hit, while California complied — revoking thousands of licenses to avoid steeper losses.

The carrier’s post-market announcement April 16 is intended to reset expectations ahead of the release of earnings for the first quarter on April 22.

The action follows a federal audit of New York’s commercial driver licensing program that identified widespread violations of federal requirements.

The DAT report found spot van rates increased 11 cents sequentially to $2.52 per mile, while reefer rose 9 cents to $2.97 per mile. 

Local news reports included witness descriptions of a chaotic scene in which some drivers fled through nearby residential yards to evade the ICE agents.

Indiana canceled nearly 1,790 non-domiciled commercial driver licenses April 1 when a new law took effect aimed at undocumented truckers and their employers.

The groups said that to ensure new carriers operate more efficiently, a stronger, prevention-focused program should continue to guide FMCSA’s safety strategy.
