GE Transportation’s long drought order is starting to seem like a distant memory.

GE Transportation, a foundation piece of the company built by inventor Thomas Edison, a business founded in Erie, Pa., and based there for most of its 110-year history, is merging with another Pennsylvania company in a deal worth $11.1 billion.

A flurry of reports over the past few days speculate that GE Transportation will be sold to a longtime supplier, Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corp., which does business as Wabtec Corp.

On July 13, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that Logistics Plus, which handles transportation and logistics around the world, will expand its headquarters in Erie’s Union Station, creating 44 new jobs.
