N.H. Lawmakers Vote to Increase Fuel Taxes

New Hampshire lawmakers voted to raise the state’s 19.625-cent fuel tax by 4 cents starting July 1.

Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) said she will sign the measure, which increases the state’s fuel tax for the first time since 1991.

The House voted for the bill 193-141 on April 23. The Senate passed the measure March 27.

The bill raising fuel taxes was opposed by the state’s trucking industry, which said it wanted the state to legalize gaming to help pay for transportation.
