FedEx Has Busiest Day in Company History on Cyber Monday

FedEx Corp. said it had its busiest day in company history Cyber Monday, moving more than 22 million shipments worldwide.

Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx said it handled 125 packages per second Dec. 2 and shipped 11% more packages than last year, driven by an increase in ecommerce.

Package volume on its busiest day has almost doubled since 2007 when the company shipped 11.5 million packages.

Dec. 1 -7 is expected to be FedEx’s busiest week with an estimated 85 million shipments, a 13% increase compared with last year’s busiest week, according to the company.



FedEx said its world hub in Memphis, when working at peak capacity, sorts 500,000 packages per hour across 42 miles of conveyor belt.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
