UPS Inc. will raise prices 5.9%, to take effect on Dec. 26.

The higher average price “helps to support ongoing expansion and capability enhancement,” UPS said on its website.

Rival FedEx Corp. will boost shipping rates by the same amount on Jan. 1.

UPS and FedEx rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
