Uber President Jill Hazelbaker is leaving the ride-hailing giant to lead communications at OpenAI, becoming the latest veteran executive to depart Uber this year.

The acquisition will help better position Uber against rival DoorDash, the leading food-delivery platform in the U.S. 

“Logistics is global by nature, but too often it’s managed through disconnected partners and regional silos,” said Rebecca Tinucci, CEO of Uber Freight.

The growing availability of Costco on third-party delivery apps increases the competition for rival Instacart, which was one of Costco’s first third-party partners. 

Ride-hailing companies like Lyft and Uber have been partnering with robotaxi developers to prepare for a future where driverless vehicles could increasingly threaten their core businesses.

The massive restructuring is aimed at reducing management layers and reallocating spending into its ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi businesses. 

Uber Technologies issued a bookings outlook that just met analyst estimates and said fierce competition in the key Brazil market weighed on trips volume.

Waymo is exploring options to exit its robotaxi partnership with Uber Technologies Inc., the Financial Times reported.

Uber offered to pay $47.60 a share and will acquire Delivery Hero’s operations in 50 markets, the company said in a statement on July 16.

Uber has previously approached Delivery Hero with an offer of 33 euros per share, but investors have been betting that a higher price will be required to seal the deal.
