J.B. Hunt Transport Services has made its first purchase of electric-powered trucks, acquiring five medium-duty eCanter box trucks from Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. for use in making deliveries in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and in the greater Houston area in Texas.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services reported a big bump in revenue in the third quarter as higher rates boosted the top line for each of its four freight segments. Profits, however, did not keep pace as the company dealt with outstanding legal issues and absorbed start-up costs for several new large dedicated hauling contracts.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services reported first-quarter 2018 net earnings of $118.1 million, or $1.07 a share, up from $102.7 million, or 92 cents a share, in the first quarter of 2017. The Bloomberg analyst consensus forecast the carrier would report net income of $120.6 million, or $1.09 a share.
