Driver Detention Time Creeps Upward

After improving in 2018, it appears as though driver detention time has increased recently, with many shippers falling back into habits that delay trucks at their docks and push up dwell times.

A Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration advisory committee has recommended the agency seek authority from Congress to impose penalties against shippers, receivers and brokers who “unduly detain” commercial vehicle drivers.
