Growing uncertainty over future U.S.-Mexico trade ties is stoking concern that more Mexican auto production could lose out to U.S. factories.

U.S. tariffs pushed by President Donald Trump and supply chain disruptions are eroding Mexico’s gains as a manufacturing hub.

Ford has a plant in Chihuahua, GM and Stellantis operate five in Coahuila, Nissan has production in Aguascalientes while Guanajuato is home to complexes for GM, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Toyota and VW. 

Mexico’s Senate on Dec. 10 voted in favor of the bill that imposes tariffs of between 5% and 50% on more than 1,400 products from Asian nations that don’t have a trade deal with Mexico.

Sheinbaum said that talks with U.S. carriers will go on but the feeling is that cargo airlines are satisfied with the agreement over slots at two airports.
