The American Transportation Research Institute is marking 20 years of providing the industry with research into the issues it confronts every day.

Truck tonnage in April increased a seasonally adjusted 6.9% compared with year-ago levels, according to American Trucking Associations' For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index.

Canadian National Railway appears to be the front-runner to acquire Kansas City Southern Railroad after the KCS Board of Directors on May 13 declared CN has presented a “superior proposal” to an earlier offer from Canadian Pacific to purchase the U.S.-based railway.

Class I railroad CSX Corp. is acquiring bulk liquid carrier Quality Carriers Inc. in a deal that expands the railroad’s footprint in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Yellow Corp. reported a revenue gain for the first quarter of 2021, but said weather-related issues during the period took a toll on its bottom line.

The national average price for diesel rose 1.8 cents to $3.142 a gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released May 3.
