ashington state’s Senate has given approval to mandates boosting the use of 2% biodiesel fuel, and the measure is likely to be signed into law, the Associated Press reported.

Under the measure, by December 2008, 2% of all diesel sales must be biodiesel and all gasoline sold in the state must contain least 2% ethanol.

State lawmakers hope mandated demand will provide a market for producers and refiners of biofuels, AP said.

ov. Christine Gregoire (D) is expected to sign the measure, approved 29-19, AP reported.

Minnesota is the only other state with similar biodiesel requirements, though its law was temporarily suspended there this winter as truckers found their filters clogged in cold weather.
