Volvo’s North American Deliveries Drop

Volvo AB said its heavy truck deliveries for the first eight months of the year fell 4.4% worldwide, while North American deliveries plunged, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Worldwide deliveries through August fell to 135,781 from 141,966 vehicles a year earlier, the Sweden-based company said in a statement, while North American deliveries fell 59%, Bloomberg reported.

Volvo posted its biggest quarterly profit decline in 18 months in July after new U.S. emissions standards caused North American sales to drop. Second-quarter net income dropped 14% to about $615 million, Bloomberg said.

Deliveries of Volvo-brand trucks in North America fell 62% to 9,082 vehicles in the first eight months because of the new emissions rules, the company said.

Volvo is the parent company of Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks.
