Vitran’s Profit Dips in Second Quarter

Vitran Corp. said Thursday its second-quarter profit was $5.5 million or 41 cents a share, down from $5.8 million or 45 cents a year ago.

The Toronto-based transportation firm’s revenue rose to $170.1 million from $123.6 million last year.

Vitran has truckload, less-than-truckload and logistics operations in the United States and Canada.

LTL segment income from operations rose 12% to $9 million, the company said.



The company reiterated that its 2007 earnings per share would be $1.60 to $1.70.

Vitran is ranked No. 60 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
