Vikner Says ‘Pent-Up Demand’ To Drive Stronger Mack Sales

Vikner, speaking to a Transport Topics editorial forum Jan. 30, also said the company’s January orders had topped the already high order numbers the company posted in December, pointing to strong future production.

“There is a lot of pent-up demand for trucks they need today,” he said.

is remarks were in line with other evidence that 2004 should bring the strongest truck market since before the 2001 recession — partly as carriers order trucks to meet improving economic demand, and partly as fleets grow in their acceptance of new engine models introduced in 2002.

A Feb. 3 report by the Merrill Lynch investment firm said industry data showed January orders for Class 8 truck makers “far exceeded expectations.”
