U.S. Xpress Acquires 49% Stake in Abilene Motor Express

.S. Xpress Enterprises has acquired a 49% stake in Abilene Motor Express, a Richmond, Va., truckload carrier, the company said Wednesday in a statement.

Abilene’s management team, including Chief Executive Officer Keith Jones and President Kolen Jones, will remain in place and control a 51% stake in the company.

U.S. Xpress Enterprises now has a minority interest on Abilene’s board and an exercisable option to purchase management’s interest through Aug. 30, 2010.



Abilene, which operates about 170 tractors and 534 trailers, provides medium length of haul and dedicated dry van truck services in the Eastern United States.

U.S. Xpress Enterprises is ranked No. 21 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
