UPS Renames Overnite LTL Unit as UPS Freight
PS Inc. said Tuesday it has renamed its less-than-truckload subsidiary Overnite Transportation as UPS Freight.
UPS said its customers will begin seeing the new uniforms and newly branded trucks May 1, although UPS Freight will continue to operate independently of the company's package-delivery network.
The rebranding includes the UPS logo and new colors for the unit — a gray reminiscent of Overnite's gray, combined with UPS's signature brown — and the planned launch in May of a new Web site for shipping and tracking.
Motor Cargo Industries is a Western regional LTL carrier based in Salt Lake City, which Overnite acquired in 2001.
Overnite had used its logo throughout its 71-year existence.
In addition to LTL services, UPS Freight also offers dedicated contract carriage and truckload transportation.
"UPS is known for its technology, its operational expertise and its extensive service options and reliability. We are bringing those same features to our LTL customers,” said Leo Suggs, chief executive officer of the renamed unit.
