UPS Inc. said it will purchase 285 more natural-gas powered trucks in 2014 for its small-package delivery business, Bloomberg News reported.

UPS also said it will build nine more natural-gas filling stations, including three in Tennessee due to natural gas available year-round for transportation and a favorable regulatory environment, according to Bloomberg.

The purchase will be part of a larger environmental sustainability effort. The company vowing to reduce its diesel soot emissions by 75% by 2020 and reduce nitrogen oxides by 60%, Bloomberg reported.

The company said it does not plan on buying diesel powered tractors next year.

The impending purchase follows April's announcement that the company will buy 700 liquefied natural gas-fueled trucks and construct four refueling stations by the end of 2014.
