UPS Expands Shipment Options to Mexico
UPS Inc. has expanded shipment options to Mexico with a discount door-to-door ground service and expanded preferred less-than container-load expedited ocean freight service.
The company recently launched UPS Standard to Mexico, a small-package ground service it says is an economical option for ground package delivery south of the U.S. border. UPS is ranked No. 1 in Transport Topics’ Top 100 list of for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
“Mexico was the United States’ second-largest export market in 2012 and is its largest importer of U.S. computer and electronic parts. By leveraging UPS logistics expertise, we can help our customers maximize the potential this market has to offer,” Romaine Seguin, president of UPS Americas Region, said in a statement.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, trade between the United States and Mexico has increased 113% over the past 10 years, with more than $1.35 billion in cross-border commerce taking place every day.
The company also has expanded its preferred less-than container-load expedited ocean freight service from Asia to three locations in Mexico.
The company now offers the service from 27 Asian ports to Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara.
Ocean lane imports from Asia to Mexico are forecast to increase at a rate of 12% through 2016, compared with an expected 6.5% growth globally, according to UPS.
“We continue to see retail, industrial and automotive companies looking for additional freight transportation options allowing them to increase their speed to market without dramatically increasing their transportation costs and without having to sacrifice product visibility,” Keith Andrey, vice president of UPS ocean freight services, said in a statement.
UPS’s Preferred LCL service was launched in 2011. The company says it provides up to 30% faster port-to-door delivery to Mexico for LCL shipments while delivering the economic advantages of ocean freight.
Atlanta-based UPS ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
