Universal Truckload’s 3Q Profit Improves

Universal Truckload Services said its third-quarter net income rose slightly from a year ago.

Net income rose to $5.5 million, or 36 cents a share, from $5.4 million, or 35 cents, a year ago. Revenue fell 2.3% to $183.3 million.

Operating income declined 7.4% to $7.8 million, while truckload revenue slipped 2.4% to $108.2 million.

Brokerage revenue fell 9.3% to $44 million and intermodal revenue rose 10.6% to $31 million, the company said.



Universal said that following its acquisition of LINC Logistics Co. on Oct. 1 it has increased the scope of its service offerings by adding third-party logistics services with operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Universal Truckload is ranked No. 39 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
