Swedish Co. to Launch Electronic Pen

Swedish firm Anoto plans to launch an electronic pen that would be able to wirelessly transmit e-mail to computers or wireless devices.

The pen employs specially designed paper to enable users to write words or sketches. Users can have the information transmitted wirelessly by marking an X in a box on the bottom of the digital paper.

The pen and paper are expected to reach stores in the early part of next year, with a number of manufacturers producing the pen.

The pen is equipped with a digital camera able to take 100 snapshots per second when the pen point touches the paper. According to company Vice-President Peter Schnorr, the pen can transmit up to 50 pages of normal-size writing in one transmission. Ottawa Citizen Outline (3/19/01); Guly, Christopher
