Yellow Plans Highlighted for Online Marketplace
Before September, Transportation.com President and CEO hopes to have a batch load process to handle numerous shipments per day; some customers already plan to handle hundreds of shipments each day through Transportation.com. The company is also planning to incorporate other transportation modes. ORTX is one company that has signed up with Transportation.com, although the company feels it needs to work with other sites as well due to market fragmentation, which keeps any one site from having sufficient volume.
Anderson Logistics is using Transportation.com on behalf of the Keebler subsidiary Godfrey Transportation, with hopes of bringing Godfrey more backhaul revenue; the amount of work it takes to put data online is keeping Anderson from using more than one Web site.
Another Transportation.com customer is SouthEastern Freight, which wants to make sure it does not avoid a channel that could be helpful. But SouthEastern is still concerned about using a company that might go under and finds the number of online intermediaries overwhelming.
