ales of heavy-duty trucks surged 59.8% in August to their highest level in more than four years, driven largely by replacement orders from fleets that held onto aging trucks during the 2001 recession and after the shift to new-era engines in 2002.
Manufacturers sold 18,233 Class 8 trucks in August, compared with 11,413 a year earlier, according to data compiled by Ward’s Communications.
The latest jump marked the 10th consecutive increase in monthly sales, year over year. August sales were the highest since hitting 21,818 in June 2000.
