Truck Makers Market Safety Systems to Fleets

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The world’s two largest commercial vehicle makers, DaimlerChrysler and AB Volvo, have decided to make truck safety a key component of their marketing efforts.

In elaborate press demonstrations in Germany and Sweden in successive weeks earlier this month, the two manufacturing giants unveiled their latest safety initiatives and pledged to design their upcoming products with a focus on reducing accidents and injuries.

Eckhard Cordes, who heads DaimlerChrysler’s Commercial Vehicle Division, told the company’s Innovation Symposium ’04 in Stuttgart, Germany, May 4, that “90% of all accidents can be avoided, provided the new technologies are introduced on a broad scale.”
