he National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission on Thursday held a field hearing in Dallas earlier this week, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The 12-member commission, created in 2005 under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act — A Legacy for Users, is tasked with determining what tack the nation will take to generate transportation funding through 2050, the Express-News said.

Commission members said they elected to hold the first hearing in Texas because the state has already started experimenting with its own ways of raising funds for transportation projects, such as the proposed Trans Texas Corridor, the Express-News reported.

The commission includes Mary Peters, who is President Bush’s nominee to succeed Norman Mineta as secretary of transportation, Maria Cino, deputy secretary of transportation, and Pat Quinn, chairman of American Trucking Associations.
