In Texas, Beto O’Rourke vs. Corey Roen: Why You Should Care

Each day this week, three times per day, Transport Topics reporter Eugene Mulero looks at one of 15 key congressional races that affect transportation interests, and explains Why You Should Care.

Today: Texas' 16th District – Incumbent Democrat Beto O'Rourke vs. Republican challenger Corey Roen.

Beto O'Rourke, the freshman Democrat from Texas’ 16th Congressional District, is a proponent of establishing a robust freight system to boost commerce around the state. The district is home to the city of El Paso, which serves as a prominent intersection for trucks in the region. O’Rourke also champions expanding mass transit and rejects tea party-backed efforts to limit the influence federal transportation agencies have at the state level. His Republican challenger, Corey Roen, has indicated he would support tea party issues on Capitol Hill, if elected.
