Ten States Sue Feds, Claiming Light-Truck Rules Too Lax

en states, led by California, filed suit Tuesday in San Francisco in an attempt to force the Bush administration to strengthen fuel-economy rules for light trucks, Bloomberg reported.

he suit contends the administration’s recent fuel-economy standards on light trucks sport utility vehicles and minivans were not preceded by rigorous analysis, and that the government did not consider the rules’ implication on climate change, the New York Times reported.

The Department of Transportation announced light-truck fuel fuels in late March that would run through 2011. (Click here for previous coverage.)



Those rules were later challenged by the environmental group the Natural Resources Defense Council as not being stringent enough. (Click here for previous coverage.)

California is lead plaintiff in the suit, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont and the District of Columbia.
