Qualcomm Forms Services Team for Truck Customers

Wireless communications provider Qualcomm Inc. said Monday it had formed the Qualcomm Professional Services team to provide application installation, systems integration and testing for truckload and private fleet customers.

The company also said in a release it had enhanced several programs for trucking customers including Activity Base Pay and Management Advisor.

Management Advisor allowed carriers to retain, track and report on customer-defined performance metrics such as asset utilization and measure financial returns in real dollars, Qualcomm said. Transport Topics




Tripmaster, CDP Unite for Research

Onboard computer systems and support software company Tripmaster Corp. said that CDP Capital, a unit of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Canada’s largest asset management firm, had made a substantial investment, but did not say how much.

Richard Geib, Tripmaster’s chief executive officer, said the additional capital would “help fund Tripmaster’s extensive research and development efforts and will strengthen the company’s position to execute its strategy for substantial future growth.”

Tripmaster said it also reached an agreement to develop software products with another CDPQ-funded company, FleetMind Solutions, which makes onboard computing and communications products for Canadian truck fleets. Transport Topics


Orbcomm Completes Financing Deal

Satellite telecommunications company Orbcomm said Feb. 24 it had completed a deal to get $26 million in financing from several new and existing companies and investors.

Dulles, Va.-based Orbcomm said in a statement that it would use the financing to support growth initiatives.

Orbcomm said it provides two-way narrow-band data communications services to customers that include Caterpillar Inc., Volvo Trucks and XATA, which use the company’s satellite network to track, monitor and control mobile and fixed assets.

Under the agreement, SES Global SA, the world’s largest provider of broadband satellite services, planned to join Orbcomm’s board of directors and help the company deploy its next generation of satellites and develop new applications, Orbcomm said.

Orbcomm said the other primary companies involved the deal were Ridgewood Capital, based in New Jersey and California, and Bremen, Germany-based OHB Technology A.G. Transport Topics
