SkyBitz Firm Names Burtner as New CEO

Tracking technology provider SkyBitz said that Richard Burtner was named its new chief executive officer. Burtner was interim CEO since April, after joining the company as chief financial officer in May 2003.

SkyBitz said that for fleets, it provides equipment tracking through its global locating system product.

"I’m looking forward to expanding SkyBitz’s brand and services globally into new security and global logistics verticals, which encompasses intermodal containers, rail and maritime, while continuing to grow our trucking base," Burtner said.



The company said in a statement that Burtner was committed to expanding the functionality of its satellite-based asset monitoring and information management services, which Skybitz said increases security and efficiency. Transport Topics


Volvo Chooses Chevron Delo as Factory Fill

ChevronTexaco Products Co. said Aug. 30 that Volvo Trucks North America selected its Chevron Delo Gear Lubricant ESI as factory fill for its VN model trucks.

VTNA is a truck-making subsidiary of AB Volvo. ChevronTexaco Products Co. is a division of Chevron U.S.A. Inc.

either ChevronTexaco nor Volvo provided financial details of the agreement.

ChevronTexaco Products said in a statement it is one of Volvo’s two global preferred suppliers for lubricants and Volvo’s only approved supplier for coolants.

Maptuit Corp. Adds Two New Investors

Trucking, tracking and traffic services provider Maptuit Corp. said Aug. 23 it added the Eckford Group and Horizon Technology Finance as new investors, but did not provide details on the investment.

It said the additional investors participated in Maptuit’s new series B round of financing.

They join Flagship Ventures, Edison Venture and Draper Fisher Jurvetson as investors in the company, Maptuit said.

Maptuit said it would use the additional funding to support the development and delivery of new product enhancements to its existing product, FleetNav Suite.

Maptuit said it provides trucking, tracking and traffic services for the transportation and consumer markets. Transport Topics


Pioneer Transfer, 3PL Inc. Become Partners

Pioneer Transfer said it had partnered with 3PL Inc. to create Pioneer Transfer LLC, a 3PL company.

“3PL brings several attractive elements to our new relationship: an infusion of capital to pay our carriers fast, improved technology allowing shippers and carriers to work with us on a national basis and, most importantly, a commitment to continue our 16 years of growth,” said Kari Dobrovolny, Pioneer’s president.

Pioneer Transfer is a transportation broker based in Sioux City, Iowa. It has several regional offices and a warehouse operation in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

3PL Inc., based in Minneapolis, specializes in logistics and freight brokering for the trucking industry and said it was partnering with brokerage companies by offering capital, technology and management and marketing expertise. Transport Topics
