DOT Upgrades Disaster-Relief With Continuous Vehicle-Tracking System
The Department of Transportation said it has improved its truck-tracking system, which is used for relief and recovery efforts.“This new tracking system will allow for more constant monitoring of the location of all trucks being used by DOT during a response to a disaster,” Brian Turmail, DOT spokesman, told Transport Topics.
“Additional information about the shipment and its status also will be available through Web-based systems, to allow better access for officials involved in the relief and recovery operations,” he said.
DOT said trucks involved in emergency relief efforts have been tracked since 2002 so the agency could monitor the flow of assets and estimate arrival times. Transport Topics
