Mineta Touts New Construction Technologies

Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta on Thursday said new construction technologies are reducing road construction times, while producing longer lasting and less expensive highways and bridges.

Among the new technologies are concrete that hardens in hours instead of days, prefabricated pavement that snaps together like children’s building blocks and higher visibility road signs, Mineta said in a statement.

He also said innovative technology was used to quickly reopen sections of Interstate 95 in Connecticut after an accident last month melted sections of the freeway. (Click here for previous coverage.) Transport Topics

Connecticut Bill Would Provide E-Mail Traffic Updates

A legislative committee in Connecticut is considering a bill that would provide traffic alerts by e-mail to Connecticut motorists, the Associated Press reported.

The bill calls for the state Department of Transportation to set up a system to send out an immediate e-mail notifications to motorists about traffic conditions along their routes to and from work.

A feasibility study of the proposed system is under way by the Legislature's Transportation Committee, AP said. Transport Topics
