PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Negotiations between Wawa Food Markets and the Teamsters union representing truck drivers and warehouse workers resumed at the request of a federal mediator, but no agreement was reached.
The two sides met for about an hour Thursday to share proposals on the issue of Sunday overtime pay. No new talks were scheduled.
"I'm happy that people are getting creative, and sometimes being creative spurs them. I'm optimistic," said Bob Ryder, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 463.
About 260 unionized truck drivers and warehouse workers went on strike Sunday night after rejecting a final contract offer by the chain's management. At issue are pension rights and overtime for Sunday work.
Teamsters set up pickets at about 180 stores Thursday.
Wawa officials said replacement workers were making deliveries and its 510 stores remain open in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
