PS Inc. workers represented by the Teamsters union are seeking early contract talks with the package-delivery company to settle health-care and pension issues, the union said Monday.

The current agreement with UPS expires Aug. 1, 2008. The union said it is willing to begin talks within the next three months, Bloomberg reported.

The Teamsters said they would ask their members to sign petitions demanding that UPS come to the negotiating table early. The petitions will arrive at Local Unions across the country this week.

About 210,000 of Teamsters members work at UPS, which is the biggest employer of Teamsters, Bloomberg reported.

A UPS spokeswoman told Bloomberg the company had not been contacted by the union about starting talks and that it would defer comment until it reviewed any request for talks.
