Tax Issues on Hold Until After Election

SAN FRANCISCO — Election-year politics and a split between a Republican Congress and a Democratic White House means no major tax issues will be settled during the balance of this year, according to a Washington-based tax lawyer.

“For federal taxes, the current climate is characterized by many proposals but little action. The surplus will continue but it is an election year,” Robert Pitcher said during a June 20 speech at a convention of finance officers in trucking.
