Senate Confirms Former Kan. Transportation Secretary to Sit on STB

The Senate confirmed Debra Miller to sit on the three-member Surface Transportation Board for a term that expires in December 2017.

Miller is a former Kansas Secretary of Transportation, the first woman to hold that job in the state. The STB handles railroad rate, service and merger issues.

Miller was confirmed April 7 after being nominated in September by President Obama to succeed Frank Mulvey, whose term ended in 2012 but who was held over a year.

Miller was the longest-serving transportation secretary in Kansas history, holding that post from 2003 to 2011 when she left to join the transportation consulting firm Cambridge Systematics.

While at KDOT, Miller was active in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, serving as chairwoman of AASHTO’s Standing Committee on Planning. She also served as chairwoman of the executive committee of the Transportation Research Board.
