Savannah Port Enrolls Workers in TWIC

The Transportation Safety Administration said that that beginning Thursday, some 23,000 workers from the Port of Savannah, including truck drivers, are expected to enroll in the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential Program.

"The start of enrollment is one more step in our effort to prevent persons who are a threat from gaining access to secure areas of port facilities," said Maurine Fanguy, TWIC program director for TSA.

Savannah is among the first 12 ports to begin enrollment in the nationwide program, TSA said. Ultimately, the agency said it plans to establish fixed enrollment centers at 147 ports.
