STUTTGART, Germany — Global sales at German commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck were down 8% in 2025, the company reported Jan. 16.

Weakness in the manufacturer's key North American market was largely to blame for the decline, with sales slumping 26% to 142,000 vehicles.

Freight forwarders are holding back on ordering new vehicles from the DAX-listed company as a result of U.S. tariffs.

The company's Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand, which is mainly present in Europe and Latin America, remained at the previous year's level at around 160,000 vehicles.

The Trucks Asia segment increased sales by 4% to 107,055 units while Daimler Buses sold 26,991 vehicles, a 2% rise on the previous year.

Daimler Truck saw revenue fall 8% to 36.5 billion euros  ($42.4 billion) over the first nine months of the year, with profit down 31% to 1.57 billion euros.

The manufacturer plans to present figures for the full 2025 financial year in mid-March.

It is aiming to become more competitive by cutting costs in Europe by more than 1 billion euros by 2030, with around 5,000 jobs to be lost in Germany.

A further 2,000 jobs are also at risk in North America.
