Daimler Truck North America is pressing the EPA to finalize its proposed revisions to the nitrogen oxide-emissions rule for model-year 2027 engines.

A total of 350 staff will be based at the site. Other U.S. offices were closed as operations were consolidated in the Charlotte-area suburb.

Any expansion of the truck maker’s North American leasing or rental operations would be carried out through Daimler Truck Financial Services.

Freightliner is adding workers at its Saltillo, Mexico, manufacturing plant as production ramps up across North America, Daimler Truck CEO Karin Radstrom said.

“We have a couple of sites, so I hope we make a decision pretty soon,” CEO Karin Radstrom said Sept. 13 at an event preceding the IAA Transportation conference.

The Generation 6 engines meet Environmental Protection Agency 2027 nitrogen oxide emissions rules scheduled to become effective Jan. 1.

Daimler Truck does not expect to shutter any additional North American manufacturing plants as a consequence of plans to build its largest U.S. assembly facility.

Daimler Truck Chief Financial Officer Eva Scherer confirmed to investors and analysts that DTNA would only sell 2027 EPA-compliant engines.

CEO John O’Leary told reporters the plant would be the company’s largest truck manufacturing facility in the United States when up and running.

It is the second time Daimler Truck or a predecessor has announced plans to close the Swan Island plant since acquiring Freightliner in 1981.
