Roberson Transportation Buys Timberline

Roberson Transportation Services has purchased Timberline Transport of Eastman, Ga., thereby increasing the size of Roberson by about one-fifth in terms of revenue.

No. 98 on the Transport Topics 100 list, Roberson had revenue of $124.6 million in 1999. Timberline’s projected revenue for this year is $25 million, or 20% of Roberson’s. In 1994, Timberline had revenue of $4 million for the year.

While Roberson also offers truckload, dry van carriage and logistics service, the extra capacity from the Timberline purchase will be a boost to its flatbed operations, the company said in a Nov. 16 announcement.

Kent Hubin, Roberson’s marketing director, said Timberline will be run as a division of PFT Roberson, the corporation’s flatbed unit. Timberline founder and Chief Executive Officer Randall Lewis will remain with his company as its general manager, reporting to PFT Roberson managers.
