Roadrunner Transportation Systems said Friday it has acquired two Nebraska-based truckload carriers for about $24 million.

Roadrunner bought R&M Transportation and all of the outstanding stock of Sortino Transportation, primarily refrigerated carriers.

Last year, R&M and Sortino together generated about $64.5 million in revenue, Roadrunner said.

The deal “expands our refrigerated capacity in key lanes and broadens our customer base,” said Roadrunner CEO Mark DiBlasi.

“R&M and Sortino’s Midwest presence enables us to more effectively cross-sell our truckload services,” he said in a statement.

Roadrunner, which posted a strong second-quarter profit earlier this week, is ranked No. 32 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
