Report Says SoCal-China Trade to Grow

hinese exports to Southern California’s ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will grow 10.2% in 2006 from last year’s record $102 billion, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., the Associated Press reported.

In 2006, trade through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach is projected to be 15.6 million containers, the report said.

Overall, the Southern California ports were the fifth busiest in the world in 2005, behind Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shen Zhen, near Hong Kong, AP reported.



An estimated 43% of all ship-borne cargo entering the United States came through the Los Angeles/Long Beach ports in 2005, the report said.
