Portland, Ore., Passes 5% Biodiesel Mandate

he Portland, Ore., city council last week passed a measure that requiring filling stations to sell diesel containing 5% biodiesel, Portland television station KATU reported on its Web site.

The council approved the measure, which would also require that gasoline must contain at least 10% ethanol.

The new mandate does not take effect until July 1, 2007, KATU reported.



Some station owners argued that the mandates will drive up the processing cost of fuel, pushing consumers to go outside Portland for less expensive fuel, the station reported.
