Frozen Food Express Acquires Refrigerated Less-Than-Truckload Firm
The regional refrigerated LTL Nordic Trucking, which has about $10 million in yearly revenue, has been purchased by FFE Transportation Services, Frozen Food Express Industries' principal subsidiary, in a deal involving cash and deferred payments. The buyer also picks up a Kansas City, Mo., cold-storage warehouse and anticipates increasing its number of drivers and tractors by as much as 25."Nordic's cold-storage warehousing business is a natural extension of temperature-controlled logistics, and we are excited to enter this segment of the business with an existing facility," said FFEX Chairman and CEO Stoney M. Reardon to be CFO, as Joseph J. Leonhard takes Reardon's job as vice president of finance and treasurer and Jeremy J. Weinstein replaces Leonhard at the post of vice president and controller. Weinstein was the Consolidated Delivery & Logistics northeast region finance director.

Con-Way Modifies Fuel Surcharge Tariff
Con-Way Transportation Services' current fuel surcharge for its Con-Way Western Express, Con-Way Southern Express, and Con-Way Central Express carriers will be divided into two surcharges. Starting Nov. 29, there will be an LTL surcharge for shipments less than 20,000 pounds and a truckload surcharge, two times as high, for larger shipments. An Ontario government task force last week began looking into the price of fuel in the province and will send the federal government its findings. "The Ontario government is launching this review because the federal government is ignoring the concerns of Ontarians about gas prices," said Bob Runciman, minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations.The Competition Act puts the fuel market under the federal purview. Driver-Leasing Business Makes Jacksonville First Florida Stop
TransForce, which operates across the country leasing truckers and other transportation workers to companies, has made its first foray into Florida by establishing a Jacksonville office.
