Infanger Guilty, Not Murderer
Idaho trucker Michael Infanger was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and spared a second-degree murder conviction, Wednesday in the fatal January crash on Highway 99 in California that killed two teenage girls. The Fresno County jury had been 11-1 in favor of the second-degree murder conviction Tuesday, but it appears to have changed its mind due to Superior Court Judge Wayne Ellison's explanation of the difference between "conscious disregard" and "wanton disregard," said prosecutor Blake Gunderson.
Infanger, who was found to have a 0.17% blood alcohol content not long after the crash, could get up to 11 years' imprisonment at his Dec. 17 sentencing. Fresno Bee (11/18/99) P. A1; Baker, Michael
