SAN DIEGO — National Truck Driving Championships Grand Champion Roland Bolduc celebrated drivers’ contributions to the country at American Trucking Associations’ 2022 Management Conference & Exhibition.

An ambassador for safety on the highways, the Massachusetts-based truck driver who works and competes in Connecticut — also winner of 2017’s NTDC — reflected on his place in the industry.

“I just try to drive safely. I just try to promote safety. I just try to get other drivers to focus on their safety record the way I focus on mine,” Bolduc told Transport Topics on Oct. 25, shortly before meeting with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “When you’re involved in the truck driving championships, you take safety on a very personal level.”

Bolduc, who was recognized on the MCE stage for his NTDC grand champion honors, shared his philosophy.

“You want to create a safety bubble around your vehicle. You know who’s entering. You know who’s exiting it, and know how to drive defensively all the time. And, God forbid you have an incident or an accident, you’re out of the truck driving championships, so that’s the main focus.”

Specific to ATA’s fall conference, Bolduc added, “I like coming here, so it’s one of the bonuses of driving safely.”
