verall for-hire trucking freight volumes surged 1.9% in November from a month earlier, greater than originally reported and to the second-highest level on record, American Trucking Associations said late Tuesday.

ATA has said in a preliminary report in late December that November’s tonnage rose 1.9%. (Click here for previous coverage.)

The seasonally adjusted rise was the third straight following gains in September and October, and was the largest since the 5.6% jump last January, ATA said. The latest index level was 116.9, second to the all-time record of 118.9, set a year ago January.

Prior to September, the tonnage index had declined for four consecutive months.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the tonnage index dipped 1.7% from October, ATA said.
