urface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 12.6% in June compared with a year earlier, the Department of Transportation reported Tuesday.
June trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners included a 9.7% jump in U.S.-Canada trade and an 18.1% gain in U.S.-Mexico trade, DOT said in its monthly report.
June U.S. imports by truck rose 10% from a year earlier to $24.4 billion, while truck exports gained 14.2% to $23.3 billion.
Rail imports rose 22.4% to $6.5 billion year-over-year, while exports gained 12.9% to $2.8 billion.
Pipeline imports jumped 14.2% to $4.5 billion, while exports rose 7.4% to $260 million, DOT said.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among Nafta partners moves by land.
